What's for Dinner?
18-Jul-2008

...not fish! -
The kinds of fish available for your dinner table will change
radically in the near future, thanks to global warming. When
you next go to the store to buy fish, you may be in for some
surprises—your favorite kinds may simply not be available any
more. Or there may be nothing there at all, since the recent
massive flooding of cities and farms in the Mississippi River
basin has washed nitrogen fertilizer into commercial fishing
areas of the ocean, causing "dead zones" where no fish can
live.

Exciting New Discovery About the Moon
16-Jul-2008

As we get ready to join a host of European nations, as well
as China, in a race to the moon to shovel up the valuable
Helium 3
dust lying on the surface, we have long wished there was
water on
the moon for the thirsty miners who will be working there.
Now it turns out that WATER is lying on the moon's surface
too, encased in crystal "beads." Since this means there is
water INSIDE the moon, it indicates that our satellite
may have
been created in a slightly different way than we
have long
thought it was.

Cars (& Gas Stations) of the Future
15-Jul-2008

BMW will bring out an electric version of its popular "Mini" in
2010, but you'll have to get on a waiting list in order to buy
one, since they will only be leased to around 500 "selected"
customers at first. The first ones will be available in
California, since that state has a mandate that requires car
manufacturers to build 7,500 non-polluting cars by 2014.
You can refuel your electric car—if you're lucky enough to
get one—by installing a wall socket in your garage, but how
can you find a gas station if you have a
hydrogen-
fueled car?

part of the problem, lowering the yield of important food
crops, such as wheat and soybeans.

How Did They Do It?
09-Jul-2008

For centuries, modern violin makers have tried in vain to
recreate musical instruments that sound as good as the ones
the Italian masters made in the 17th century. Researchers
now think that the wonderful music from a Stradivarius is due
to the density of the wood it was made from and that, in
turn, has to do with how COLD the weather was at that time.
